Backus Hospital Among the Best Hospitals Nationally for Maternal Care

Backus Hospital has been nationally recognized for its high-quality maternal care from pregnancy through birth. The Newsweek’s list of “America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2022” names the top 350 leading hospitals in the U.S., with Backus Hospital and Hartford Hospital earning top honors in Connecticut.

“It is an honor that Backus has been recognized for the quality care we provide our obstetrical patients,” said David Kalla, MD, FACOG, medical director for women’s health, East Region. “I am proud of the comprehensive team of nurses, providers and clinicians that we have at Backus who serve our patients with safe and compassionate care every day. It is our number one priority.”

The Newsweek’s list divides the hospitals into two performance categories – five ribbon hospitals and four ribbon hospitals – with both Backus Hospital and Hartford Hospital receiving a four ribbon designation.

The evaluation is based on three data sources: a nationwide online survey where hospital managers and maternity healthcare professionals were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals, medical key performance indicator data relevant to maternity care and patient satisfaction data.

“Our obstetric physicians, midwives and pediatric providers through Connecticut Children’s Medical Center allow us to have state of the art services in a community hospital setting,” said Kalla.
